Prince George may one day inherit the throne — and, judging by new photographs, he could also be on course to become the tallest member of the Royal Family, after being pictured nearly shoulder to shoulder with his mother, the Princess of Wales.
Royal watchers said the 12-year-old eldest child of Prince William and Catherine is “growing up so fast” after official images from his recent visit to RAF Coningsby appeared online.
One user on X posted a comparison showing William at 15 standing beside his late mother, Princess Diana, alongside George at 12 with Catherine during their moving trip to the RAF base.
William was reportedly 179cm, or just under 5ft 9in, at that age, while George — who will turn 13 next month — is already said to be 175cm, roughly 5ft 8in.
At 6ft 3in, the Prince of Wales is currently the tallest figure in the British Royal Family, though the X user joked that “William’s reign won’t last much longer” given George’s apparent growth spurt.
George is not the only young royal attracting attention for his height. When James, Earl of Wessex, attended Peter Phillips and Harriet Sperling’s wedding in the Cotswolds last month, fans noticed the 18-year-old appeared to tower over his father, Prince Edward.
Edward, the King’s youngest brother, is thought to stand at around 6ft, suggesting his son may now be somewhere between 6ft 1in and 6ft 2in.
That would put James at approximately the same height as Prince Harry, who is around an inch shorter than William.

Prince William
Prince William currently holds the distinction of being the tallest royal, towering over his relatives at 6’3″.
He stood high from a young age and was over six feet when he was just 16 years old.
Royal author Tina Brown wrote in Palace Papers: ‘By the age of 16, William possessed the Spencerian height – 6ft 1″ – which made him princely even in sneakers.’

Mike Tindall
As a talented sportsman and former England rugby player, it may be no surprise to learn that Mike Tindall is tall.
He stands at 6ft 2″, according to TNT Sports, making him one of the tallest royals, just short of William.
Mike’s build saw him through a 17-year-long rugby career – during which he helped England win the World Cup in 2003.
He married Zara Tindall, the late Queen Elizabeth’s granddaughter, in 2011 and they have three children together.

James, Earl of Wessex
The Earl of Wessex, who turned 18 last December, appeared ‘confident’ as he attended Peter Phillips’s ‘intimate’ wedding to NHS nurse Harriet Sperling in the Cotswolds earlier this month.
Royal fans also couldn’t help notice how James seemed to be taller than Prince Edward, who is believed to be six feet tall.
Footage filmed outside All Saints Church in Kemble, Gloucestershire, showed the pair chatting animatedly before joining the Duchess of Edinburgh.
Reacting to the clip, fans remarked he looked so ‘grown up’ and that he ‘towers’ over his mother Sophie, 61, who is believed to be around 5’5″.

Prince Harry
Stood at 6ft 2″, Harry doesn’t quite make it as the tallest royal and is just shorter than his older brother.
However, he is taller than his father and his wife, Meghan Markle, who is one of the smaller royals at 5ft 6″.
Harry’s height is a few inches taller than the average man in the UK – around 5’10”.

Arthur Chatto
Princess Margaret’s grandson, Arthur Chatto, is another tall royal and appears to be around 6ft 1″.
When stood next to Peter Phillips, who is reportedly six foot, Arthur seems to be slightly taller.
At 25 years old, he makes his living as a member of the Royal Marines and was the first royal to join the regiment.
His mother, Lady Sarah Chatto, is Margaret’s daughter and the late Queen Elizabeth’s niece.

Prince Edward
Prince Edward overtakes the King, too, and stands at 6ft, taking after his late father, Prince Philip.
He is the tallest member of his immediate family, towering over his wife Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh.

Sam Chatto
Princess Margaret’s grandson, Sam Chatto, appears to be around 5ft 11″ in height when compared to his brother Arthur and Peter Phillips, but it is not officially known.
Though taller than his mother, Lady Sarah Chatto, the qualified yoga instructor and pottery maker, seems to stand slightly shorter than his girlfriend, Eleanor Ekserdjian.
The pair both studied at the University of Edinburgh and have a strong passion for art.
