For many airline passengers, a layover is little more than a race to grab coffee, find a gate, or claim one of the few open charging outlets.
But for one traveler passing through Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) over the weekend, the stop became far more memorable.
Airport officials announced Monday on social media that a passenger identified by slot machine maker IGT as “Anthony” won a staggering $3.3 million jackpot on a “Wheel of Fortune” slot machine.
“Congratulations to a lucky traveler who hit a $3.3 million jackpot on the Wheel of Fortune slot machine over the weekend in C Gates at LAS Airport,” the airport’s post said.
The winning spin happened in the airport’s C Gates after the traveler placed a $10 bet, turning an ordinary airport visit into an unforgettable Las Vegas moment.
Although airport slot machines are often believed to offer tighter payouts than those found inside the major resorts on the Las Vegas Strip, LAS has still built a reputation for producing surprise millionaires.
Harry Reid International is one of only two commercial airports in the United States with gambling available inside its terminals; the other is Reno-Tahoe International Airport.
According to local reports, Michael Gaughan’s Airport Slot Concession operates more than 1,400 machines throughout the terminals. The machines generate tens of millions of dollars in annual revenue, which helps reduce airline operating costs and can support more competitive airfares.
The multimillion-dollar windfall by “Anthony” is just the latest in a string of recent high-profile terminal jackpots.
In May 2025, another traveler pocketed a cool $1.8 million on a $5 bet on a “Wheel of Fortune” machine in the D Gates.
Before that, the airport celebrated a $1.4 million jackpot won by a visitor from San Diego and a $1.3 million win in 2023.
While “Anthony” will have to account for a 24% federal tax withholding on his $3.3 million prize, Nevada does not tax personal income or gambling winnings.
“Congratulations on your incredible win, and thanks for making LAS part of your lucky journey,” airport officials wrote on social media.
