Garfield Park, Chicago shooting today: Teens among 7 people hurt in 2 Chicago shootings in 3800-block of West Maypole Avenue

CHICAGO (WLS) — Seven people, including several teenagers, were wounded in two early Sunday shootings on Chicago’s West Side, according to police.

Authorities said the first shooting happened around 1:25 a.m. in Garfield Park, where a 17-year-old girl was standing outside in the 3800-block of West Maypole Avenue.

She was struck in the chest and rushed to Stroger Hospital, where she was listed in critical condition.

About nine minutes later, at roughly 1:34 a.m., gunfire erupted again on the same block, striking at least six people who were also outside, police said.

Two 17-year-old boys were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and reported to be in good condition. One suffered a gunshot wound to the leg, while the other was shot in the neck.

An 18-year-old woman was wounded in the buttocks and arm and transported to Stroger Hospital, where she was also listed in good condition.

An 18-year-old man who was shot in the leg was brought to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.

A 19-year-old man was shot in the foot and taken to Stroger Hospital, where police said he was in good condition.

A 20-year-old man, shot in the body multiple times, was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.

At about 1:48 a.m., a man was found shot to death just over 1 mile away, in the West Garfield Park neighborhood’s 4300-block of West Van Buren Street.

Police did not immediately say whether the three incidents are connected.

Area Four detectives are investigating. Police did not immediately provide further information.
