Inset: Bryan Fain (Pinellas County Jail). Background: The 2000 block of Whitney Drive in Clearwater, Florida, where Fain is accused of neglecting a double amputee (Google Maps).
A 41-year-old Florida man entrusted with caring for a double amputee is accused of leaving the woman in urine-soaked diapers and bedding and failing to bathe her for weeks, authorities said.
Bryan Fain faces a charge of neglect of an elderly or disabled person. Clearwater police said they were alerted after the alleged victim contacted a friend and described the mistreatment. According to a probable cause arrest affidavit, an officer went to a home in the 2000 block of Whitney Drive on Monday to conduct a welfare check and knocked repeatedly.
Fain eventually came to the door appearing “disheveled,” the officer wrote. Once inside, police said they found the victim in a home filled with what the complaint described as the overpowering odor of “human and dog feces.”
The woman requires around-the-clock care, authorities said.
She told officers she had not been bathed in several weeks. Police wrote that the most recent bath she received was on the back porch, where she was washed with a garden hose.
“She had not been remotely wiped down for a ‘bed bath’ in several days and has been left in urine-soaked diapers and bedding for hours/days,” the affidavit stated.
Paramedics transported the victim to the hospital. Doctors noted she had multiple bedsores and rashes from being neglected.
Fain is the sole caregiver for the woman. Cops concluded there were “multiple factors/demonstrators” that showed that the defendant was neglecting the victim. Details such as the relationship between Fain and the victim and how long she was living in the home were not included in the affidavit.
Police arrested Fain and took him to the Pinellas County Jail, where he remains on a $10,000 bond. His next court date was not listed.
