A 25-year-old man allegedly told Wisconsin deputies who arrived at his family’s home searching for his father, “I killed him,” adding that his father had “been dead for over an hour,” prosecutors said.

Colton Christopherson is accused of repeatedly stabbing his father, Allan Christopherson, in the neck before covering his body with a “tarp” in the home’s laundry room. He has been charged with murder.

According to a criminal complaint obtained by Law&Crime, Colton told police he attempted to bury his 56-year-old father at the family’s “hunting land” in Washburn County after the Sept. 26 killing. He reportedly abandoned the plan after becoming alarmed by someone at the property.

The complaint says Colton drove his father’s body back to the family’s home in Casey and dragged it inside, making “a lot of heavy dragging.” Prosecutors allege he then began cleaning the basement, washing rugs and wiping the “bloody floor” in an effort to conceal the scene.

“He planned to wait until dark and bury [Allan Christopherson] at the hunting land,” the complaint states.

After Colton allegedly confessed, deputies found Allan Christopherson face down on a “pool table cover” with a “green tarp” over his body. Authorities had gone to the home for a welfare check after relatives and acquaintances became concerned about Colton’s recent behavior and drug use, according to the complaint.

As deputies approached the residence, they saw Colton Christopherson leaving the family’s garage wearing shorts and a white shirt.

The complaint says deputies identified him and asked how his day was going. Colton reportedly said it was fine before extending his hand to shake one deputy’s hand. His hand was “shaking very erratically,” and he appeared extremely nervous, the complaint states.

When deputies asked whether his father was home, Colton allegedly acknowledged that he had killed him.

According to the complaint, deputies asked where Allan was and whether they could speak with him. Colton allegedly lowered his head, looked toward the house and said his father was dead. When asked how he died, he reportedly replied, “I killed him.” Deputies then ordered Colton to put his hands behind his back and handcuffed him.

When deputies asked whether he was certain his father was dead, Colton allegedly said Allan had been dead for “over an hour.” Asked what caused the death, he reportedly answered, “A knife.”

Investigators found blood throughout the home, including “bloody footprints” in the basement near the pool table, according to the complaint.

Prosecutors say Colton told police he had come from Minnesota because he believed his father had “hired someone to kill him.” During their confrontation, Colton allegedly said Allan confirmed that suspicion.

“Colton killed [Allan Christopherson], as it was better that he did it than someone else,” the complaint concludes.

Colton Christopherson was arrested and charged with first-degree intentional homicide. Allan Christopherson was a high school teacher and golf coach who helped lead the Wayzata High School boys golf team to state championships in 2010, 2011, 2015 and 2017.

“Allan Christopherson … impacted hundreds of young golfers in his storied career,” the team wrote on Instagram. “He will be missed by all who knew him.”
