HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES — A suspect sought in connection with a Chicago homicide investigation was taken into custody following a police pursuit that ended with a rollover crash in Los Angeles, California.
The chase unfolded in Hollywood, where Los Angeles Police Department officers tracked the vehicle until the driver eventually crashed.
Scene video showed the suspect lying on the ground in handcuffs after witnesses described a short but hazardous pursuit.
Additional footage captured LAPD officers removing the suspect from the overturned vehicle.
Avias Alcantara, a construction worker nearby, said he was sitting in his truck eating lunch when the chase came through the area.
“Everything happened fast … it was crazy,” he said.
Alcantara said the suspect’s vehicle, with several police units behind it, struck a laundry truck at an intersection before continuing along Cherokee Avenue.
“The car hit the small van, and then they started going on the street and then he hit the fence on the house and roll over,” Alcantara said.
Alcantara said the suspect appeared unable to walk after the crash and was removed from the overturned vehicle by officers before being transported by ambulance to a hospital.
The crash occurred in an area where Alcantara said he and other construction workers typically spend their lunch breaks.
“I probably wouldn’t be telling this story right now,” Alcantara said.
Authorities identified the man taken into custody as a suspect in a Chicago homicide case. Additional details about the homicide investigation and the suspect’s condition were not immediately available.
