Dramatic video from rural Canada captured a terrifying wildfire closing in on a freight train, as crew members feared they could be cut off by the fast-moving flames.
The footage, shared by Ontario lawmaker Sol Mamakwa, shows vivid orange fire burning dangerously close to a train stopped near Armstrong, Ontario, late Tuesday.
“This could potentially overtake us here, this has gotten a little scary,” one crew member told the operator as the wildfire appeared to push toward the locomotive.
“Y’all need to hurry up here. Seriously. We’re encased in flames.”
“This has got to move f–king quick,” the worker added, urgently calling for help as the situation intensified.
Flames could be seen burning along the railway line, while thick smoke and firelight washed the sky in an eerie orange glow.
Canadian National Railway, which operates the freight train, later confirmed that three trains carrying flammable materials had been halted in the Armstrong area on Tuesday, according to Canadian outlet Superior North News.
The train crews were safely evacuated from the area.
The fires across western Ontario are now threatening to send plumes of smoke towards the Great Lakes and northeastern US.
Smoke could reach Boston, New York City, and Philadelphia by Wednesday night, Fox Weather reported, with meteorologists warning smoke concentrations could compare to the orange blankets that covered The Big Apple in June 2023.
