Forest pounce for free agent Xaver

Nottingham Forest are set to sign Austria midfielder Xaver Schlager on a free transfer.

The 28-year-old became available after leaving RB Leipzig at the end of his contract and has rejected other proposals in order to agree a two-year deal that will see him link up with Oliver Glasner.

Schlager was part of the Austria side beaten by Spain in the last 32 of the World Cup.

Clubs on alert as Camavinga could leave Real

Eduardo Camavinga may also be on the move, with Real Madrid potentially prepared to let him leave this summer.

The 23-year-old France international would prefer to stay at the Bernabeu, but Madrid could make him available for transfer as they look to balance spending in other areas of the squad.

Manchester City and Manchester United have both considered Camavinga but cost will obviously be key if the player is put up for transfer.

Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has begun pre-season training and is still awaiting one or two more additions while assessing the players at his disposal. Some will be allowed out on loan or sale.

Manzambi set for Villa medical

Swiss international Johan Manzambi is expected to have his medical at Aston Villa tomorrow.

His club Freiburg say Villa have agreed to pay a club-record fee of around £54million plus add-ons. That will exceed the amount Villa paid Everton in 2024 for Amadou Onana, who is now out with ligament damage.

Villa are pursuing other midfield targets after losing Youri Tielemans to Manchester United and two full-backs after allowing Andres Garcia to join Getafe on loan and losing Lucas Digne to Paris Saint-Germain for £8.5m.

They have enquired about Pervis Estupinan at AC Milan and Emerson Royal at Flamengo.

Villa have also sold Lewis Dobbin to Southampton for £9million plus add-ons.

Is there a berth for Bissouma in west London?

Former Tottenham midfielder Yves Bissouma has been training at Fulham’s Motspur Park. The 29-year-old is a free agent after his contract expired with Tottenham this summer.

Fulham manager Alvaro Arbeloa is looking to strengthen in a number of positions so they will take a look at Bissouma but as it stands there are no immediate plans to offer a contract.

Bournemouth move forward with Silva talks

Bournemouth are advancing in talks to sign Benfica defender Antonio Silva.

The 22-year-old is in the final year of his contract and had refused new offers.

The clubs have been discussing a £17million fee plus add-ons.

Silva has been followed by several English clubs in recent years and has 20 caps for Portugal.

Bournemouth had also been interested in Sassuolo’s Tarik Muharemovic who is joining Leeds United.

Sunderland get their man Meunier

Sunderland have confirmed the signing of Belgium full-back Thomas Meunier on a two-year contract.

The 34-year-old was a free agent after leaving Lille and had interest from Valencia and Hull.

‘I am hugely excited and honoured to join Sunderland,’ Meunier told the club’s website. ‘I’m very happy to be here and to begin this new chapter in my career.

‘The Premier League is one of the most competitive and exciting leagues in the world, and it’s a challenge I’ve wanted to experience.

‘When I spoke with the club, I was impressed by the ambition, the project and the desire to keep moving forward. Competing in Europe was also a big factor in my decision because, as a player, you always want to test yourself against the best teams and compete for trophies.’

Winks heads to Italy

Harry Winks has signed a two-year contact at Serie A side Cagliari, days after Window Watch reported that the Leicester midfielder had flown to Rome to complete his medical.

Leicester are in throes of adding attacking midfielder Conor Chaplin, formerly of Ipswich, on a free and ex-Southampton goalkeeper Alex McCarthy, also a free.

Saints win the battle for Dobbin

Southampton have confirmed the signing of Lewis Dobbin from Aston Villa in a deal worth £10million.

He has agreed a four year contract.

Sheffield United, Wolves and Middlesbrough were also keen on Dobbin.

Wrexham are in talks over a £7.2million deal for Fiorentina centre-back Matias Moreno.

The 22-year-old Argentine, who was on loan at Levante last season, is now discussing personal terms with the ambitious Championship club.

Fiorentina want a 50 per cent sell-on clause into the deal also.

Wrexham have also discussed a move for Leicester’s Harry Souttar and are in talks over a £7m deal for Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson.
