Paul Pelosi crash: Husband of Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi facing hit and run charge in Yountville in Napa County, California

LOS ANGELES — Paul Pelosi, the husband of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, was charged Friday with a misdemeanor hit-and-run following a collision involving a parked vehicle.

Pelosi, 86, was behind the wheel of his brown convertible on July 3 in Yountville, California, a Napa Valley town in the heart of wine country, when he hit a legally parked car along the side of the road, the Napa County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement at the time. Authorities said he stopped briefly before allegedly leaving the scene. The parked vehicle was empty, and no injuries were reported.

According to the sheriff’s office statement, Pelosi had no alcohol in his system.

California law requires drivers involved in crashes that cause property damage to stop and provide vehicle and license information. Napa County prosecutors said Friday that Pelosi was charged with a misdemeanor violation of that requirement. He was also cited for an infraction related to making an unlawful turn.

Court records did not list an attorney for Paul Pelosi. Nancy Pelosi’s press office did not immediately respond to a call requesting comment.

Paul Pelosi is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 14.

The new case comes after Pelosi pleaded guilty in 2022 to misdemeanor driving under the influence charges in Napa County. He was sentenced to five days in jail and three years of probation. He served two days behind bars and received good conduct credit for two additional days, leaving one day to be completed through a courthouse work program.

As part of his probation, Pelosi was required to pay thousands in fines and victim restitution, attend a three-month drinking driver class and install an ignition interlock device, which forces drivers to provide a breath sample to prove sobriety before the engine will start.

That same year he was attacked and severely beaten with a hammer at the couple’s San Francisco home.
