US soldier believed to be killed in Jordan attack remembered as living 'life of courage and selflessness'

An American soldier believed to have been killed in Jordan during an Iranian attack is being honored for what officials described as a “life of courage and selflessness.”

The Department of War said Sgt. Angel Rampersad, 28, of Ozone Park, New York, was among three U.S. soldiers believed to have been “killed in action on July 17, 2026, during an enemy attack at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base” in Jordan. U.S. Central Command said over the weekend that the troops were killed while CENTCOM and allied forces “defended against Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks.”

“Sgt. Rampersad lived a life of courage and selflessness. New York, and our nation, are safer because of brave Americans like her who answer the call to serve,” New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said in a statement. “May we honor her memory, remember her sacrifice and keep all who loved her in our prayers.”

Hochul also offered condolences to those closest to Rampersad, saying, “My heart is with her family, loved ones and the soldiers who stood beside her as they grieve this unimaginable loss.”

Officials said the circumstances surrounding Rampersad’s death remain under investigation and noted that she had previously been listed as missing. The two other soldiers believed to have died in the attack were identified as 1st Lt. Tyler James Feehan, 25, of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, and Pvt. Isabella Gonzales, 19, of Carrollton, Texas. All three were in Jordan in support of Operation Inherent Resolve, the U.S.-led international mission targeting ISIS in Iraq and Syria.

President Trump responded Monday on Truth Social, writing, “Every time Iran kills an American Soldier they will pay for that killing many times over!” He added, “This directive has been passed on to Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Daniel Caine, and every Leader in the Military.”

“Today, we mourn the loss of Sgt. Angel Rampersad,” Brig. Gen. Glenn Henke, commanding general of the 10th Army Air and Missile Defense Command, said in a statement. “We extend our deepest, most heartfelt condolences to her family and all those who are navigating this unimaginable loss.
