Ford is bringing Apple Maps deeper into its future electric vehicles, integrating the navigation service directly into its new Universal Electric Vehicle Platform. The first model built on that platform will be a $30,000 midsize electric pickup scheduled to launch in 2027. According to Ford’s Thursday announcement, the built-in Apple Maps experience will deliver turn-by-turn guidance with natural-language directions, live traffic and incident updates, smarter search with detailed place cards, and multiple routing choices.
The system will also support EV-focused features, including intelligent route planning and battery preconditioning to help drivers prepare for charging stops. Because Apple Maps will be baked into Ford’s upcoming EV architecture, owners will not need to connect an iPhone to access the navigation tools. Ford emphasized, however, that Apple CarPlay will continue to be offered in its vehicles.
Ford also said it is collaborating with Apple on the next version of BlueCruise, its hands-free driver-assistance technology. The upgraded system will draw on Apple Maps’ road-level data to support hands-free highway driving from on-ramp to off-ramp. At the same time, Ford’s Latitude AI division is continuing work on an eyes-off, unsupervised driving system, which the company expects to have ready in 2028.
