Joe Rogan says ex-con guest allegedly killed man, hid dismembered remains month after podcast

Joe Rogan said a man who had recently appeared on “The Joe Rogan Experience” was later accused of killing someone roughly a month after sitting down for the podcast.

Rogan brought up the case on Wednesday’s episode while speaking with physician Zach Bush during a broader conversation about sociopathic behavior, revisiting his 2024 interview with Sheldon Johnson.

Johnson, a former inmate who had presented himself publicly as a rehabilitated criminal justice reform advocate, was arrested in the spring of 2024 after authorities said he fatally shot Collin Small inside a New York City apartment, dismembered the body and hid the remains in separate places. He was charged with second-degree murder.

According to investigators, responding officers initially found Small’s headless torso at the scene. They later recovered dismembered feet inside a plastic bin, while additional remains were allegedly discovered at Johnson’s apartment in Harlem.

Rogan described the situation to listeners by saying a guest had been in his studio and was later accused of killing a man and decapitating him. He claimed Johnson went to see someone with whom he had an apparent dispute, killed him, attempted to conceal the remains and was captured on hallway cameras while trying to leave.

Johnson had appeared on Rogan’s podcast alongside civil rights attorney Josh Dubin, who runs an organization dedicated to supporting people who say they were wrongfully convicted. Johnson had been released from prison in 2019 after serving time connected to a string of armed robberies from 1999.

When Johnson appeared on the podcast, he was working as a client advocate for the public defender’s office in Queens.

According to the New York Post, a man could be heard begging for mercy before two gunshots rang from the apartment building where Johnson was seen going in and out of in different disguises following the murder.

Records from the New York Department of Corrections indicated that both Johnson and Small had served time in prison, though the nature of their relationship remained unclear.

During his appearance on Rogan’s podcast, Johnson said turning his life around was his goal.

“I said to myself, ‘I’ve been doing bad for so long. I’m going to try to do something good,'” Johnson said.
