EL SEGUNDO, Calif. – Justin Herbert has secured a ring before the new NFL season begins — just not the kind awarded in February.
The Los Angeles Chargers quarterback and Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Madison Beer announced their engagement Tuesday in a joint Instagram post. The photo showed Herbert down on one knee with a ring box in hand as Beer smiled beside him, crouched with her right hand resting on his left knee. The caption was simple: “Meet my fiancé.”
Well-wishes quickly poured in, including messages from the NFL, the Chargers and singer Gracie Abrams.
Herbert and Beer were first seen together last August. Beer attended several Chargers games during the season, and the couple shared a sideline kiss at one of them. They have also been spotted courtside and in the stands at Los Angeles Lakers and Dodgers games.
Their relationship also crossed into Beer’s music career this spring, when Herbert appeared in her “lovergirl” video.
Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh has publicly backed his quarterback’s relationship. When Herbert missed part of voluntary offseason workouts to travel with Beer on tour, Harbaugh responded with a quip: “Do you need a ride to the airport?”
Herbert, 28, reports to training camp Wednesday as he begins his seventh season with the Los Angeles Chargers. The franchise is still seeking its first playoff victory of his tenure.
Beer, 27, rose to wide attention in 2012 after Justin Bieber shared a video of her singing “At Last” with his social media followers. A year later, she released her debut single and music video, which included an appearance by Bieber. She went on to earn Grammy nominations in 2024 and 2025. After walking the red carpet at the 2025 ceremony, Beer left the show and later said she has “really bad social anxiety.”
