A suspected shoplifter in Ohio made a dangerous bid to escape police by jumping onto a woman’s SUV as it traveled along a highway, according to dramatic video of the incident.
The attempted getaway unfolded after Miami Township police stopped a vehicle carrying the suspect and another person following allegations that they had stolen from a nearby Kroger store, WFLA reported.
As officers approached, police said the suspect suddenly ran from the vehicle and darted across an on-ramp leading to Interstate 75.
Video from the scene shows the man sprinting toward the roadway before latching onto the side of a stunned driver’s SUV.
Authorities said the suspect then somehow climbed onto the hood and damaged the windshield while apparently trying to take control of the vehicle as it continued moving on I-75.

The suspect eventually fell from the SUV and was taken into custody by Miamisburg police, who brought him to a hospital for treatment, officials said.
Police said he was charged with aggravated robbery, theft and obstructing official business. The person who was with him was charged with complicity to theft.
The woman driving the SUV was not hurt, though her vehicle sustained damage in the incident.
