James Carville vows to abandon Democratic Party if far-left Hasan Piker becomes leading voice

Veteran Democratic strategist James Carville said he would walk away from the Democratic Party if left-wing streamer Hasan Piker becomes one of its dominant voices, insisting that most Democrats would share his alarm.

“I am not going to be in the same party with Hasan Piker,” Carville said during an appearance on “The Sunday Briefing.”

Carville went further, warning that Piker’s rise inside Democratic politics would be a breaking point for him. “If he becomes a force in a Democratic Party, I’m out of here. I have no intention of ever being in the same political party with that guy,” he said.

Piker, who describes himself as a socialist, has built a major online following and recently campaigned alongside Abdul El-Sayed, the Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate in Michigan. His growing visibility comes as democratic socialist candidates and activists gain traction in races across the country.

The streamer has also been a frequent source of controversy. In 2019, Piker faced intense backlash after saying during a livestream that “America deserved 9/11.” He later said in an interview that he “obviously” did not mean the United States deserved the terrorist attacks, framing the remark instead as criticism of U.S. foreign policy.

“I can’t sit here and tell you for certain how this is going to turn out, but the one thing I can tell you for certain, Hasan Piker and James Carville are not going to be in the same political party. One of us is going to leave. It might even be me,” Carville told Fox News.

Piker has recently pointed to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., as his preferred Democratic presidential contender for 2028. He also predicted there is “0% chance” the party’s eventual nominee will be pro-Israel in “any way, shape or form,” citing polling that shows Democratic support for Israel has sharply declined.

The dispute reflects broader tensions inside the Democratic coalition as democratic socialism becomes more influential and the Democratic National Committee faces its own internal pressures. DNC Chair Ken Martin is dealing with mounting debt, while Carville said the committee needs to “un-constipate itself,” adding that he “can’t help them.”

With several DSA-endorsed candidates winning their respective primaries across the nation, socialism’s growing influence has intensified debate within the Democratic Party over its ideological direction.

“It may be that the two-party system is just going to be under tremendous stress here in the coming months,” Carville said.

Carville has raised concerns over far-left candidates, saying in a recent CNN interview that many of them are “too hard-headed to know that they’re not popular,” adding that “people don’t like them.”

Carville also warned that democratic socialists are dragging the party’s brand “through the mud.”

Fox News Digital reached out to Piker for comment but did not immediately receive a response.
