CHICAGO () — Four people, including two off-duty Chicago police officers, were injured Friday afternoon during a fight at a South Side beach, authorities said.
The confrontation broke out around 4:05 p.m. at 31st Street Beach, located in the 3100 block of South Lake Shore Drive, according to Chicago police.
Police said the off-duty officers, a 23-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman, were with two other men, both 22, when they were approached by four people described as two male offenders and two female offenders. Their ages were not immediately known.
Investigators said a verbal dispute followed. The two off-duty officers identified themselves as police and tried to calm the situation, but the argument escalated into a physical altercation.
The 23-year-old off-duty officer suffered cuts to his face and nose and was transported to a hospital in good condition, Chicago police said.
The three other victims sustained various cuts and additional injuries but declined medical treatment at the scene, according to police.
All four suspects connected to the 31st Street Beach fight were taken into custody, CPD said. Charges were pending Friday.
Chopper 7 flew over the area after the incident, showing police gathered near the entrance to the beach.
No further information was available as Chicago police continue to investigate.
