Ukraine’s Massive Aerial Assault on Russia Leaves at Least 6 Dead

Ukraine carried out one of its most expansive drone assaults on Russia on Sunday since the war began, sending hundreds of unmanned aircraft across the border in strikes that left at least six people dead.

The barrage came as Kyiv continues to push the conflict deeper inside Russian territory, nearly four and a half years after Moscow’s full-scale invasion ignited the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Russia’s Defense Ministry said its air defenses shot down 822 Ukrainian drones overnight, including roughly 600 that were detected flying in the direction of Moscow. Officials said about one-third of the drones were intercepted over the capital region.

In the southwestern Rostov region, five people were killed in a drone attack as more than 150 drones damaged residential buildings, struck a railway station and ignited a forest fire, regional Governor Yury Slyusar said.

Moscow region Governor Andrey Vorobyov said an 83-year-old man died when a Ukrainian drone slammed into a private home.

Vorobyov also said another strike triggered a fire at a warehouse belonging to Russian e-commerce giant Wildberries in the town of Podolsk.
