Princess Eugenie names her baby Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank

Princess Eugenie has revealed the name of her newborn daughter, Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank, sharing the baby’s first photograph in a touching family announcement.

The 36-year-old royal welcomed the little girl in Portugal earlier this month with her husband, Jack Brooksbank, 40, choosing a name that includes a heartfelt nod to the late Queen.

Eugenie said the name was inspired by figures she and Jack “love and admire, past and present,” blending personal meaning with royal heritage.

The King’s niece posted on Instagram this afternoon: “2 weeks ago today we welcomed our girl to the world. And since then we’ve had the most special, cosy and love-filled time.

“We are so happy to share Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank. Named after three people we love and admire past and present, including her Great-Grandmother who we hold close in our hearts.

“Her name is part of English and Portuguese history, two places we love and call home.”

Mentioning the couple’s two sons, Eugenie added: “Augie and Ernie are already the best big brothers.”

The post, which featured a tender image of the newborn asleep, quickly drew warm congratulations from Eugenie’s followers.

The name Adelaide was partly inspired by Queen Adelaide (1792-1849), married to William IV.

Eugenie wore two diamond wheat-ear brooches as hair slides at the evening reception of her wedding, which were commissioned by William IV for Queen Adelaide.

The name Annina is understood to have been inspired by a personal connection.

Eugenie and Mr Brooksbank divide their time between a picturesque villa in Portugal and a cottage at Kensington Palace.

The baby, who will not be an HRH, is born 15th in line to the throne, with her great-uncle, the Duke of Edinburgh, moving down to 16th place.

Buckingham Palace officials previously revealed the couple’s sons August, five, and Ernest, three, were ‘very excited’ to welcome a new member of the family.

In a photo shared by Eugenie in May, Ernest, wearing a Chelsea football kit, and August, wearing a long-sleeved grey T-shirt, can be seen holding a picture of a baby scan.

She will also be the 15th great-grandchild of the late Queen Elizabeth II, and the third to be born since her death in 2022.

The new arrival will be the fifth grandchild of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, following the birth of Princess Beatrice’s daughter Athena Mapelli Mozzi in January last year.

Andrew – the King’s brother – was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office in February due to the scandal surrounding his friendship with the late paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein.

Eugenie and Jack married at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle in October 2018, and welcomed their first child, August, on February 9, 2021.

His younger brother Ernest was born on May 30, 2023.

Eugenie is known to be a doting parent who has repeatedly spoken about the joys of motherhood.
