An American tourist died after falling from the 18th floor of a luxury hotel in Cancun, with her devastated husband later telling resort staff that his wife had done something “outrageous,” according to local reports.
The woman, whose name has not been released, fell roughly 150 feet late Thursday night at the adults-only, all-inclusive Breathless Cancun Soul Resort & Spa, Mexican outlet Sipse reported.
Emergency crews responded to the resort, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Moments after the fatal fall, the tourist’s husband reportedly went to security personnel and said his wife had done something “outrageous,” local media said.
Authorities have opened an investigation into the woman’s death, and her husband is expected to be questioned as officials work to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Breathless Cancun Soul Resort & Spa is a 429-suite, five-star property located about 25 minutes from Cancun International Airport along Kukulcan Boulevard, the main corridor through the city’s famed hotel zone.
The 13-mile stretch is one of Cancun’s busiest tourism hubs, lined with family resorts, upscale beachfront properties and adults-only hotels.
Other major resorts along the strip include the Hard Rock Hotel Cancun, JW Marriott Cancun Resort & Spa, Hotel Riu Palace Kukulkan and Hyatt Vivid Grand Island Cancun.
