A South Carolina man is facing criminal charges after deputies said they uncovered deeply disturbing living conditions inside a home he shared with a vulnerable adult and a 1-year-old child.
Justice Anderson, 25, was charged with unlawfully placing a child at risk and neglect of a vulnerable adult following a welfare investigation at his residence on Manlicher Drive in Orangeburg, South Carolina. The Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office said the case began after staff at MUSC Health in Orangeburg reported on Sept. 4 that a 1-year-old child had sustained “serious injuries.” When deputies went to the child’s home, authorities said they found what appeared to be a situation involving neglect and abuse.
According to investigators, deputies entered the residence and discovered a 42-year-old woman described as “vulnerable” lying in a bed contaminated with maggots and spoiled food.
Officials did not immediately release updated information on the medical conditions of either the child or the woman.
