Four Wisconsin cops injured after suspected drunk driver barrels toward crowd, sparks police chase

Four Green Bay police officers were hurt Saturday morning after a vehicle drove into a group of people in Wisconsin, authorities said.

Green Bay officers were called to a disturbance near a food truck around 2:15 a.m. local time. As police worked to take several people into custody, a car moved toward officers and bystanders, leading one officer to open fire.

The driver escaped the scene, triggering a brief police pursuit. Officers eventually stopped the vehicle using a PIT maneuver, a tactical technique designed to disable a fleeing car.

Police took the driver into custody without incident. The suspect is accused of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

All four officers sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were treated by medical personnel.

Authorities said no one was injured by the gunfire.

Green Bay Police Chief Chris Davis said during a news conference that investigators had not determined whether the driver was involved in the disturbance near the food truck.

Davis also said some of the officers’ injuries occurred before the vehicle entered the crowd, while police were trying to detain people at the scene.

The Brown County Sheriff’s Office is assisting with the investigation into the officer-involved shooting.
