A woman in Indiana crossed the center line and struck a man riding in an electric wheelchair, killing him, authorities said.
Kandice Baker, 45, faces charges of causing death while driving intoxicated and possessing between 5 and 10 grams of methamphetamine, according to Allen County court records reviewed by Law&Crime.
The Allen County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 63-year-old David James Keen. Area CBS affiliate WANE reported his identity.
Officers described Baker as hyperactive at the crash scene, according to local CBS affiliate WKRC. She allegedly told investigators that she had smoked marijuana roughly two hours before the collision. Police also reportedly found a small plastic bag containing about seven grams of methamphetamine.
Police said they did not believe excessive speed contributed to the Fort Wayne crash. Baker was arrested and booked into the Allen County Jail, where she was scheduled to undergo a drug recognition evaluation.
Baker is scheduled to appear in Allen County Superior Court on Sept. 21.
