ALACHUA, Fla. – Gordon Frank Dixon Sr., 65, was arrested yesterday after authorities said he struck a neighbor in the head with a baseball bat, leaving her with a heavily bleeding injury.
Alachua County Sheriff’s deputies were called around 8:17 p.m. September 11 to the 19200 block of NW 62nd Avenue. The victim and her boyfriend told deputies that Dixon had come from his property carrying a baseball bat to confront them over a property dispute. According to the boyfriend, he moved between Dixon and the victim when Dixon approached and was pushed by Dixon. The boyfriend said the victim then struck Dixon in the torso with a 2×4, after which Dixon hit her in the head with the bat.
A deputy said the woman had an open head wound and was bleeding significantly. She was taken to an emergency room for treatment.
After being read his Miranda rights, Dixon reportedly told investigators he went to the neighboring property because of the dispute and brought the bat to protect himself from a dog. He said an argument began with the woman and her boyfriend, and that he pushed the boyfriend away when he approached. Dixon reportedly acknowledged striking the woman with the bat.
Dixon also complained of chest pain and was transported to an emergency room for medical evaluation.
Dixon faces a charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. His record includes a 1982 nonviolent misdemeanor conviction and three criminal traffic convictions from 1984 through 1991. Judge Mitchell Bishop ordered Dixon held without bail while the court considers a motion by the State Attorney’s Office seeking to keep him jailed without bail through trial. If that motion is denied, the judge will determine bail at the hearing.
