Tech giant Oracle rocked by another wave of layoffs

Oracle workers began Monday with devastating news: for some employees, an early-morning message from the technology company confirmed that their jobs would end that same day.

The termination notices were reportedly sent at around 6 a.m., with Oracle attributing the latest layoffs to a “broader organizational change.”

The email told affected employees that Oracle had reviewed its current business requirements and decided to eliminate their positions. “As a result, today is your last working day,” the message stated, according to Business Insider.

According to the report, workers were urged to complete and sign their termination documents immediately in order to receive severance benefits.

Oracle said severance eligibility would depend on the conditions of its severance plan. Employees were told that information about their official termination dates and compensation packages would be delivered through DocuSign to their company email accounts.

The reported notice also warned that access to computers, email, voicemail and company files would soon be shut off. Former employees were reminded not to download, copy, keep or forward Oracle’s confidential information to personal accounts.

The latest cuts mark Oracle’s third workforce-reduction round of the year. In August, Business Insider reported that several teams were preparing for headcount declines in the double digits.

A source familiar with the situation told the outlet that managers had been asked to identify employees whose positions could be cut as Oracle sought to reduce payroll before the company’s second quarter began on September 1.

Oracle had already cut 21,000 full-time positions—about 13% of its worldwide workforce—during fiscal 2026, which ended May 31. The company cited restructuring, performance concerns, strategic changes and acquisitions as factors behind those reductions, while reporting $1.84 billion in severance and restructuring expenses.

The layoffs come as Oracle carries significant debt but continues to generate substantial revenue. The company recorded US$57 billion in fiscal 2025 revenue, supported by a global workforce of 141,000 people, including 29,000 consulting professionals and more than 18,000 customer-service specialists who speak over 20 languages, according to Oracle’s website.
