Philadelphia loon hangs from moving train, sparking SEPTA probe

A shocking video appears to show a man from Philadelphia clinging to the outside of a moving train, prompting a SEPTA investigation.

The passenger, wearing a Hawaiian shirt and a single earphone, crouched and swayed while gripping the rear of an L train traveling between the city’s 40th Street and 46th Street stations, NBC10 reported. The footage was shared online Tuesday.

Passengers inside the train recorded the dangerous stunt and posted the video on social media, adding the theme song from “Spider-Man.”

A man was seen hanging from a moving train in Philadelphia, sparking outrage.

“Only in Philly,” read the caption accompanying the clip.

Those who witnessed the incident were stunned that anyone would ride on the outside of a moving train, a stunt that could have proved fatal.

“Never seen nothing like that, that’s madness,” Edquardo Chinnell, a passenger from Germantown, told WPVI.

“You are dancing on a thin line of life and death, because anything could happen,” Cody Langley said.

SEPTA officials are now investigating the man’s bizarre and dangerous behavior.

“I don’t understand what makes people want to do something this dangerous,” SEPTA police Captain Marc Pasquarella said.

The man crouched and swayed as he clung onto the back of the train.

“It’s insane. It’s extremely dangerous. Obviously, falling off the train, seriously injured or killed.”

Pasquarella also warned that the viral footage could encourage others to attempt similar stunts.

The date of the incident remains unclear, but SEPTA spokesperson Andrew Busch said no injuries were reported.

Investigators are working to determine the identity of the man shown in the video.

Authorities have repeatedly warned that subway surfing can lead to severe injuries or death.

In July, a 16-year-old girl survived after hitting a beam while taking part in a dangerous subway-surfing stunt in Queens.

The teenager was riding on top of a southbound A train as it approached Broad Channel station when she suddenly struck an overhead beam during the afternoon incident, law enforcement sources told the Post at the time.

Two months earlier, a 14-year-old boy died while riding on top of a subway train on the Williamsburg Bridge.

Subway surfers also face the risk of electrocution because some train tracks are electrified.

The exterior surfaces of trains can be slippery and unstable, while the high speeds at which trains travel make a fall especially dangerous.
