Amanda Seyfried and Thomas Sadoski were widely regarded as a beloved acting power couple, earning admiration from Hollywood’s glittering film scene as well as New York’s prestigious theater community.
Seyfried was the bright-eyed blonde screen star with an Emmy and Golden Globe to her name, while Sadoski was a Tony Award-winning actor known for his work in several critically acclaimed stage productions.
Away from the cameras, they projected an image of family happiness with their two children, Nina, nine, and Thomas, five. The family also shared life with Finn, their Instagram-famous dog, who died in July at the age of 16.
From the outside, the couple appeared to have built an enviable life together.
That made Wednesday’s announcement especially surprising for fans, as Amanda Seyfried, 40, and Thomas Sadoski, 50, revealed they had separated after nine years of marriage.
“We have been separated for a while, and it’s proven to be the right move for us and our family unit,” they said in a joint statement. “We’ve got each other forever – and it’s good.”

The announcement stunned fans, although signs of tension had emerged in recent months
While the couple say the decision is now “good” for their family, insiders said the road to the split was difficult. Seyfried’s demanding Hollywood schedule reportedly left Sadoski feeling “isolated” at home with their children, Our News Outlet has learned.
“Amanda and Thomas have been separated for some time, for the past six months at least,” said a source close to Seyfried.
“It was a gradual decline, but they have kept things very civil and have been geniuses about co-parenting.”
Attentive fans may also have noticed that Seyfried had stopped wearing her wedding ring months ago. She was last seen with the band on her finger at the Tory Burch fashion show during New York Fashion Week on February 11. In the days that followed, her ring finger appeared bare.
“They have not been on a red carpet much together since 2024,” the source said. “She has preferred to go out alone and she has also been heading out on girls’ trips with her female friends in recent months.”
The couple also appeared to offer a significant clue in August, when speculation about the future of their marriage intensified.
“Fans should have gotten a heads up when she listed her Hollywood Hills home last month for $3.2 million,” the source said.
Seyfried and Sadoski first met in 2015 while working together on the off-Broadway play The Way We Get By. They became engaged later that year and eloped in 2017. Seyfried previously told James Corden on The Late Late Show that they married in a rural setting close to their home, with an officiant present.

“We eloped. We just took off into the country with an officiant and, just the two of us, and we did our thing,” Sadoski said at the time. “It was beautiful. It was everything that it should be. It was just the two of us talking to each other.”
But that closeness seemingly fizzled.
‘It got weird between them because she has been working a lot, she felt like she needed to squeeze in as many projects before she turned 40 – like the roles would dry up,’ our source said.
‘But she is so well liked in Hollywood that work just keeps coming for her, so I’m not sure why she was worried so much. She is so talented, she doesn’t need to worry about losing work.’
Last year alone Seyfried appeared in the series Long Bright River and starred in two movies, The Housemaid and The Testament Of Ann Lee, for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe.
‘Amanda is very sweet and personable. She is a great person, and she works super hard but I feel like there is always that insecurity with her – like she is always trying to prove herself,’ said the source. ‘There is a nervousness that is palpable.’
And the star from Pennsylvania, who previously opened up about her struggles with anxiety in an interview with Allure magazine, is driven to succeed.
Her passion for acting began at an early age as she landed roles in high school plays before scoring her first professional gig at age 15 in the soap opera As the World Turns, which led to a part on All My Children.
That taste of success was only the beginning as she quickly transitioned to movies, aged 18, when she won her breakthrough role as Karen Smith in the hit 2004 film Mean Girls. She has been working nonstop ever since and now has over 70 projects on her resume.
‘She wants to win an Oscar,’ the insider said. ‘She already has an Emmy and a Golden Globe. She wants a Tony and a Grammy so she can be an EGOT. She sang beautifully in Mamma Mia so a Grammy is not so off the mark. She is a powerhouse and she can do it.’
Seyfried hit a turning point in 2022 when she played Elizabeth Holmes in The Dropout, according to our source.

‘She poured herself into the series and I think that changed her a bit. It was a very demanding project and she gave it her all,’ they said.
She also hit a rough patch last year when The Testament Of Ann Lee was not as well received as first hoped.
‘Amanda thought she was going to get an Oscar nomination for The Testament Of Ann Lee last year but she didn’t and when that failed, she was very upset,’ said our source.
Because Seyfried has worked so much, family responsibilities fell to her spouse.
‘Thomas, for the past few years, was left at home with the kids so he worked less and less. The dynamic shifted,’ the source said.
‘She was the worker bee and he was stuck with the young kids on the farm in upstate New York,’ the source continued.
‘He was isolated. It’s not the best feeling for a man, especially for someone like Thomas, who is a very good actor and respected in the theater world and in TV, he had a big career. He has a Tony. He really gave up a lot to be with Amanda.’
Seyfried previously revealed that her mom had moved in next door to help her and Sadoski take care of the children. ‘To be very clear about my privilege, my mom lives with us, next door. She helps most of the time when she’s here, she does the getting ready for school for my daughter,’ she explained in 2023.
And the lack of balance seemingly caused a shift in the romance.
‘For the past year they have been more friends than lovers,’ said our source of the couple’s changing dynamic. ‘They have drifted apart, but the friendship is still there. They will always be close because of the children.’

Her last red carpet was on September 13 at the premiere of The Life and Deaths of Wilson Shedd at Toronto International Film Festival
And unfortunately for Seyfried, this is not her first rodeo when it comes to heartbreak.
The star struggled badly after her split from Dominic Cooper, whom she dated for three years after meeting in 2008.
‘Amanda had a very hard time with her split from Dominic, it almost broke her. They worked together on the first Mamma Mia! and were very in love. After they broke up, she had to go off and make the movie Letters To Juliet.
‘She was a mess on the set of that movie. They had to use a lot of makeup to cover the puffy eyes from crying,’ said our source.
‘Then Amanda had to go back years later and make the sequel Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again with Dominic, and I know that was hard on her. I think that heartbreak with Dominic was very tough on her overall, it left a scar on her heart that she never recovered from.’
‘After Dominic she dated a lot of Hollywood dudes who were not that gentle. They were like players, so that was hard on her,’ the source added.
But she healed enough to fall in love again, this time with fellow actor Justin Long, whom she dated from 2013 until 2015.

Seyfried previously dated Justin Long from 2013 until 2015, someone our source said ‘she should have married’ (pictured together in May 2015)
‘She got along great with Justin, she should have married him. He is a super sweet person and smart too, a fun guy, but that ship has sailed.’ Long, 48, is now married to Kate Bosworth.
When Seyfried met Sadoski, she felt at home, we are told.
‘I feel like with Thomas she was looking for comfort. He opened his arms to her. He is 10 years older, so he was mature and ready for a family. But she was so much younger and wanted to work and prove herself more. In the end, they were pulled apart. But I don’t think you can say it’s her fault, these things happen,’ our source said.
‘It’s very hard for actresses to have kids and balance family life with a big career, so people should empathize with her. It’s like what happened with Jessica Alba and Cash Warren. There is an imbalance.’
