An attorney known for representing President Donald Trump has taken on the case of the lone holdout juror in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial.
Edward Andrew Paltzik, an attorney of counsel at the Texas- and New Jersey-based firm Taylor Dykema PLLC, announced Thursday afternoon that he is representing the juror. Paltzik is also a professor at Saint Thomas University College of Law in Miami.
“I can now confirm that I am representing the courageous and heroic lone holdout juror from the Lindsay Clancy Trial,” Paltzik wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “He is an American Hero and Champion of Justice. Please pray for him and help us protect him.”
The nationally televised and livestreamed trial centered on murder charges against Clancy in the deaths of her three children. Clancy acknowledged strangling the children before attempting suicide by cutting her wrists and throat and jumping from a second-story window at the family’s home on Summer Street in Duxbury, Massachusetts.
In early September, the 36-year-old defendant came within one vote of a verdict finding her not guilty by reason of insanity, with jurors deadlocked 11-1 on multiple occasions. On the 28th day of proceedings, after Judge William Sullivan issued several special instructions urging the panel to reach a unanimous decision, he declared a mistrial.
Since the mistrial, concerns raised by other jurors about the holdout have become a prominent part of the public record.
Jurors who have publicly identified themselves spoke with local media in Massachusetts to criticize the holdout’s conduct. Their comments also echoed arguments from Clancy’s defense attorney about his interpretation of—and adherence to—the law.
Clancy’s lead attorney, Kevin Reddington, repeatedly asked the judge to remove the juror. Reddington said it was “a real shame” that the verdict had been derailed by someone “who refuses to listen to the law” and “who refuses to accept your instructions on the law.”
Jury foreperson Roni Carlson told the judge that the deadlock resulted from the holdout’s refusal to apply the legal standard for reasonable doubt.
“He admitted he had reasonable doubt and I started filling out the [verdict] forms; I was so excited,” Carlson told Boston NBC affiliate WBTS. The male juror then allegedly said, “I’m still not going to say that she’s not guilty by reason of insanity.”
Juror Paula Devil described the holdout as “very arrogant” and said he “just completely disregarded the information” nurses provided about the effects of medications prescribed to Clancy.
Paltzik is now hinting that the juror’s critics could face legal consequences.
“Rest assured that the evil people who have so viciously attacked this American Hero and Champion of Justice will be held accountable to the maximum extent of the law and beyond,” Paltzik said.
The attorney characterized his client as “a devoted father and man of God” who remains “utterly unbroken thanks to his devout Catholic Faith.” Paltzik said the juror is “safe and sound at an undisclosed secure location in a rural area of Northern New England.”
High-profile legal battles are familiar territory for Paltzik.
He previously represented Trump in a lawsuit against CBS involving the editing of an interview with Kamala Harris. The case was settled for $16 million.
Paltzik also sent a demand letter to Penguin Random House and The New York Times threatening $10 billion in liability over what he described as “false and defamatory statements” about Trump ahead of the 2024 election. Those allegations later became the foundation of a $15 billion lawsuit against the two publishing companies.
Paltzik is currently part of Trump’s legal team in a lawsuit against the British Broadcasting Corporation. In that case, several of his co-counsel are facing possible sanctions after missing a deadline to respond to the BBC’s motion to dismiss.
“Lastly, this American Hero and Champion of Justice thanks all of you who have stood by him for your kindness, prayers, and support,” Paltzik wrote in his statement about the holdout juror.
