New testimony has shed light on the case against a California couple accused of abusing and killing their 8-year-old son with help from the boy’s grandmother. Witnesses told a court that the family allegedly wrapped Isaiah Harrison’s body in Saran Wrap before placing him inside a cooler filled with ice.
“I saw the body of Isaiah, in there, wrapped,” a witness testified last week during a preliminary hearing for Destiny Harrison, Daniel Monzon and Ana Zarceno.
Harrison and Monzon, Isaiah’s mother and father, are accused of starving and killing him in October 2025. Prosecutors allege that Zarceno, Isaiah’s paternal grandmother, also played a role in the abuse and the concealment of his body.
According to local ABC affiliate KABC, Monzon’s best friend testified that he was summoned to the family’s Lynwood home last October and initially told that Isaiah was sick. The witness said he later learned that Harrison had struck the boy and that Isaiah had died.
“Destiny had hit him, and hit him so hard that he fell and hit his head,” the witness testified, recounting statements he said had been made by members of the family.
Three other children — ages 16, 13 and 9 months — were found inside the Lynwood apartment. The children were taken into protective custody by the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services, according to local CW affiliate KTLA.
Prosecutors allege that Isaiah suffered abuse “over a long period of time” before he ultimately “succumbed to his injuries” on Oct. 24, 2025. In a release announcing the arrests, the district attorney’s office said his body was discovered several days later inside a cooler filled with ice. Witnesses also described allegations that the boy had been chained to furniture and was starving, with claims that his weight had reached 200 pounds.
If convicted, Harrison, Monzon and Zarceno each face a sentence of 32 years to life in state prison.
