Trump-endorsed Senate candidate demands end to Iran war

Two Republican Senate candidates backed by Donald Trump are calling for an end to the war in Iran as they head into fiercely contested November races.

Their anti-war appeals come as some pollsters suggest Democrats could regain control of both the Senate and the House by sweeping crucial battleground states.

In Michigan, Republican Mike Rogers has broken with Trump over the conflict in a new campaign advertisement as he faces a tight race against left-wing Democrat Abdul El-Sayed.

‘Michigan families are struggling with the price of everyday life. Groceries cost too much. We have to bring prices down,’ Rogers said. ‘The war with Iran needs to end, and end quickly. When it does, energy costs will plummet.’

El-Sayed, a former congressman, currently holds a 2.1-point advantage over Rogers in the RealClearPolitics average.

‘The war in Iran needs to end to bring costs down — but Michigan families can’t afford to wait,’ Rogers wrote on social media.

‘Here’s what we can do now: place a temporary embargo on Diesel exports. American energy should provide relief to American families first.’

El-Sayed responded sharply to Rogers’ new advertisement on social media.

‘You’ve spent your entire campaign supporting the war in Iran. Liar, coward, fraud,’ he said.

Rogers was not the only Republican Senate candidate to distance himself from the war on Monday. Iowa nominee Ashley Hinson also called for the conflict to end.

Iowa has not elected a Democrat to the Senate since 2008, but Hinson’s average lead over Democrat Josh Turek is just 1.3 points, according to RealClearPolitics.

‘Iowans are being squeezed and shouldn’t have to foot the bill at the pump or the checkout line for the war in Iran,’ Hinson wrote on X.

‘We need to use every option at our disposal to provide some relief from high prices.’

Hinson also proposed measures aimed at easing the financial pressure, including a suspension of the gas tax and a diesel relief program for farmers and truckers.

‘These actions to lower costs are needed ASAP, and the war needs to be brought to a successful and immediate end,’ she added.

Turek, an Iowa state representative, accused Hinson of hypocrisy in his own social media post.

‘It’s easy to send a tweet but when you had the chance to vote to end this war, you chose not to,’ Turek said.

‘You voted seven times to continue it, including just last week. It’s time to actually end the forever wars and put Iowa and Iowans first.’

‘Glad you’re finally following my lead after waffling on the proposals I put forward last week to address the rising costs of the war in Iran.’

In a Daily Mail/JL Partners poll earlier this month, nearly half of US voters, or 49 percent, said they believe Trump was wrong to launch military action in Iran earlier this year.

The poll also found that Americans continue to hold dismal views of the war with Iran.

Just 25 percent of voters said they believe the US is ‘winning’ the war, according to the survey.

Support was split among party lines, however – with 52 percent of Republicans saying they believe the US is winning the war, compared to just 11 percent of Democrats and 13 percent of independent voters.

A total of 42 percent of voters – more than four in ten – said they believe Trump is ‘most responsible’ for the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

A much smaller 17 percent of voters blamed the Iranian government, while 9 percent blamed former US administrations.

Americans said they would rather fork over more money for gas than send extra American troops to Iran

An eye-popping 46 percent of US voters said they would rather pay $5 per gallon gas prices than send more troops to Iran, compared to just 22 percent who said the opposite.

Among just Republicans, the split was nearly even – 38 percent preferred the higher gas costs, while 39 percent preferred sending more troops to Iran.

Per NBC, Trump’s overall approval rating is 41 percent, the lowest of his second term.
