Rachel Danis, Patrick Clancy’s new wife, said her family and friends were understandably “worried” when she began dating the grieving father whose former wife became notorious after killing their three young children.
Danis, an infertility specialist who married Clancy in April, discussed their relationship while sitting alongside him for his first interview with “60 Minutes” since the conclusion of Lindsay Clancy’s triple-murder trial, which ended in a hung jury earlier this month.
CBS correspondent Ross Douthat asked Danis how the people closest to her reacted when they learned she was seeing Clancy. After briefly pausing, she replied, “Everyone paused – um, understandably so.”
“I say everyone, I had told like a couple of close friends, and I think family members were picking up on it because they would ask what I’m doing that weekend or that evening and I would mention Pat. So people were catching on and I think people were worried,” Danis said.
Danis said she eased those fears by explaining how content and secure she felt in the new relationship.
“I would say and still say, for the first time, Sundays felt like Saturdays. So I didn’t have a reason to stop,” she recalled, describing the early days of her romance with Clancy. The pair first met while running in New York City’s Central Park in January 2024.
“Life just got a lot calmer for me. And while I did have hesitations, you know, Pat was saying he wants the same things that I do,” she added.
Clancy relocated to New York City in search of “anonymity” after returning to his Duxbury, Massachusetts, home on Jan. 24, 2023. There, he found that his then-wife, Lindsay Clancy, had fatally strangled their three children—5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson and 8-month-old Callan—before leaping from a window in an unsuccessful suicide attempt.
During the exclusive interview, which aired Sunday, Danis and Clancy also revealed that they are expecting to start a family. They said they look forward to one day telling their child about the siblings who were killed.
