A man with 18 previous arrests allegedly entered a Bronx courthouse carrying a loaded handgun concealed in his underwear before threatening court officers, according to a criminal complaint.
The security breach unfolded around 11:10 a.m. on Sept. 21, when Jamal Frett, 26, allegedly brought a black Ruger pistol loaded with five rounds into the Bronx County Hall of Justice, court papers said.
Frett later went to Justice Guy Mitchell’s courtroom, where officers said he began behaving disruptively, according to the complaint and sources.
A court officer reportedly saw Frett using his cellphone and speaking loudly, both violations of courtroom rules, and determined that he was disrupting the proceedings.
According to the officer, Frett became threatening while being escorted from the courtroom.
Court papers say Frett shouted, “don’t f–king touch me, come see me outside you want some,” and resisted efforts by officers to place him in handcuffs.
As officers restrained him, they allegedly discovered the handgun concealed in his waistband.
Frett was arrested and charged with multiple counts related to criminal possession of a weapon. He was subsequently remanded.
The Bronx District Attorney’s Office referred questions from The Post about courthouse security to the state Office of Court Administration.
The Unified Court System has launched an internal review to determine how the gun entered the secure courthouse, OCA spokesperson Al Baker said.
Security footage showed that Frett told officers he was wearing an ankle monitor and underwent a pat-down after setting off a magnetometer, Baker said.
“Officers, using a handheld scanner, patted Mr. Frett down and discovered no immediate presence of a weapon,” the spokesperson said.
After the firearm was found, the NYPD and New York State Parole Bureau were notified immediately, Baker added.
Sources said it was unclear why Frett was at the Bronx courthouse that day. His latest arrest, however, was not his first encounter with the criminal justice system.
According to sources, Frett has been arrested 18 times, including 12 arrests involving felony charges.
He was last in court on Sept. 8 in connection with a pending case. Sources said Frett and others allegedly attacked and cut a woman on the head as she walked to a supermarket on April 30.
It was not immediately clear whether Frett had an attorney representing him.
