Mark Consuelos is preparing for “major” surgery to address a painful foot problem he has endured for more than a year.
The 55-year-old talk show host revealed the news during Friday morning’s episode of Live with Kelly and Mark, where he was cohosting alongside his wife, Kelly Ripa, also 55.
“Today’s the day,” Consuelos told Ripa and the audience at the start of the show. “I’ve been putting off this toe surgery for about a year.”
Ripa, who recovered from gum graft surgery over the summer, said she planned to accompany her husband to the procedure and care for him during his recovery.
“I’m not resisting the opportunity to video capture you coming out of your propofol haze,” she joked.
“That’s right. People say some funny, funny things,” Consuelos replied.
Ripa then reminded him, “I have you on video from your last foot surgery.”

Consuelos said he had been fasting since the previous day and had not eaten before the operation, leaving him feeling “a little loopy.”
“I’ve never heard of fasting for 24 hours before a surgery,” Ripa said as she questioned the instructions he had received.
“It’s dumb. I just want to eat! I can be convinced to eat at any moment,” Consuelos joked.
The couple also used the opening segment to discuss how Consuelos planned to spend his recovery.
He asked Ripa to take over some household duties, including walking their dog, and requested that she be “present” while he healed.
Jokingly, he also told his wife to “put your phone down, take your AirPods out of your ears.”
Ripa revealed that she had created a list of activities to keep her husband occupied after the surgery.
Her suggestions included reading, journaling and playing games, before she added, “I can teach you to knit if you want.”

“Today’s the day,” Consuelos told his wife and the audience, explaining that he had delayed the toe surgery for about a year.
Ripa, who recently recovered from gum graft surgery over the summer, said she would accompany Consuelos and look after him following the procedure.
Consuelos said he was feeling “a little loopy” after fasting since the previous day; he was pictured in June.
‘Yeah, I’m going to bedazzle my boot,’ Consuelos quipped in response.
Consuelos did not share much about the surgery but revealed more details after Ripa jokingly asked him if he was undergoing the procedure to improve his golf game.
He responded by noting that the surgery is necessary.
‘No, it’s arthritic, it’s bad,’ he said. ‘I need help. Yeah, it hurts.’
He had also previously opened up about suffering from an arthritic condition in his toe after years of playing soccer.
