Texas mom tells police 'I shot both my kids' before bodies are found

A Texas mother allegedly told responding officers, “I shot both my kids,” after her two sons were found shot inside their Waxahachie home, authorities said.

Colleen Lemmon, 42, faces two capital murder charges in connection with the deaths of her sons, who were shot Thursday morning in Waxahachie, roughly 30 miles south of Dallas, according to the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies arrived at the home after a 911 call was placed at about 4:15 a.m. They found Christopher Scott Pitre, 21, dead from a gunshot wound to the head, according to a probable cause affidavit obtained by NBC 5 DFW.

Brian Pitre, 15, was also found with a gunshot wound to the head. He was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition but later died, his family told the news outlet.

Investigators said the brothers were located in separate bedrooms. Lemmon was found inside the home covered in blood, with a firearm beside her, police said.

When officers questioned her about the blood, Lemmon allegedly replied, “I shot both my kids,” according to the affidavit.

Scott Pitre, the boys’ father, said following the fatal shooting that his only wish was to see justice for his sons.

The grieving father told the outlet that the family had gathered at a lake just days earlier to celebrate Brian’s 15th birthday on Sunday.

Lemmon sustained injuries that were not considered life-threatening after appearing to inflict cuts on her own wrists, according to Fox 4.

She was arrested and taken to a local hospital for medical care before being booked into the Wayne McCollum Detention Center.

Jail records reviewed by Our News Outlet show that Lemmon is being held on a $2.5 million bond.

As of Sunday morning, no arraignment date had been scheduled, and court records did not list an attorney representing her.

Obituaries for the brothers state that their graveside services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at Ferris Memorial Park North.

Authorities have not said what prompted the deadly shooting.

Neighbors said they were stunned by news of the violence in the family’s neighborhood.

“It’s heartbreaking, and I’m praying for them,” Ira Brown told Fox 4.

She added: ‘I’m praying for God to let me understand, you know. There is no understanding, I guess, but it just hurts, and I didn’t even know them and it hurts.’

Ellis County Sheriff Brad Norman also sent his condolences to the brothers’ family.

‘My deepest sympathies go out to the victims’ father, family members, and loved ones involved in this tragic incident.

‘They will remain in our prayers during this difficult time,’ he said.

A GiveSendGo fundraiser has been launched by the brothers’ aunt to help cover their funeral expenses.

As of Sunday morning, more than $3,500 had been raised.

Our News Outlet contacted Scott and the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office for comment.
