A Sacramento mother has been convicted of murder in the death of her eight-month-old daughter, who suffered severe burns across 30% of her body.
Kristina Huemann Siedlecki’s daughter, Jannah Abughazaleh, died on Aug. 25, 2024, after sustaining second- and third-degree burns.
According to investigators, Siedlecki failed to obtain proper medical treatment because she feared being arrested. That decision contributed to the infant’s death.
The Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office said Siedlecki’s husband, Hussein Abughazaleh, placed Jannah in dangerously hot bathwater, causing the baby’s burns.
When Siedlecki returned home, she found the infant still in the bath, her skin visibly red. As time passed, the baby’s skin began to blister and peel.
Despite the severity of Jannah’s injuries, neither parent called for medical assistance. Investigators said Siedlecki’s phone search history showed she understood how badly her daughter had been hurt and knew the danger of leaving the burns untreated.
Siedlecki later told authorities that Jannah’s breathing changed and that the baby’s body became limp before she stopped responding completely.
“Instead of calling 911, Siedlecki went on social media while her husband contacted a friend for help nearly 45 minutes later. Siedlecki’s failure to obtain medical care resulted in the death of her child,” the DA’s Office said Monday.
Before Jannah was born, her paternal grandmother, Naomi Magness, said she contacted Child Protective Services because she feared the couple would be unable to keep the baby safe.
“She lost her life. She didn’t even have a chance to live a life and you [CPS] screwed up not taking the baby out,” Magness told KCRA 3 in December 2024.
Jannah’s father was also arrested on a murder charge in 2024. While being held without bail at the Sacramento County Main Jail, Abughazaleh suffered a severe medical emergency on Jan. 26, 2025.
Doctors issued a grave prognosis, and a judge granted him a compassionate release. He died out of custody just hours later.
Siedlecki faces a maximum sentence of 15 years to life in prison. Her sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 23, 2026.
