Cop friend texted accused killer upon seeing his name in the news

A court heard on Tuesday that Beau Lamarre-Condon allegedly spent $160 on flowers and involved his mother in an elaborate scheme aimed at deceiving Jesse Baird.

Lamarre-Condon reportedly shared a generic image of flowers with his Instagram “close friends” list, making the post visible only to selected followers and not to Baird.

The image carried the caption, “When he’s in Melbourne but still sends you these…”, creating the impression that Baird had sent the flowers.

Baird learned of the post shortly after it appeared in November 2023, when a friend forwarded him a screenshot. He then challenged Lamarre-Condon about it.

Senior Constable Nicole Harvell, giving evidence on Tuesday, said Lamarre-Condon allegedly told Baird that his stepfather had sent the flowers to his mother, Coleen Lamarre.

The court heard that Lamarre-Condon visited a florist, paid for a matching bouquet to be recreated and forged a note addressed to his mother from his stepfather.

He then asked Coleen Lamarre to pose with the flowers and the fabricated note before sending the resulting photograph to Baird.

When Baird questioned him about the Instagram post, Lamarre-Condon responded with a lengthy message focused on his claims of honesty.

Ms Harvell also told the court she first met Lamarre-Condon while working a six-hour shift at a Red Hot Chilli Peppers concert in Sydney on February 4, 2023.

She said roughly 80 per cent of their conversation centered on his “obsession” with Baird. The same subject reportedly dominated later discussions during their nearly year-long friendship.

Ms Harvell said Lamarre-Condon appeared to grow increasingly paranoid about the people Baird might have been communicating with or meeting.

“It seemed like he was getting quite worried that Jesse was not as into him or seeing other people,” she told the court.

The court heard that Lamarre-Condon later sent Ms Harvell screenshots of his messages with Baird.

She said he had “somehow” gained access to Baird’s phone and discovered details about other men Baird was seeing.

Lamarre-Condon subsequently messaged her: “So I did a f***ing thing,” accompanied by a facepalm emoji.

He then asked her to view a story posted to his Instagram “close friends” list.

Ms Harvell said she could not recall the story’s exact content, but remembered that it related to Lamarre-Condon’s situation with Baird at the time.

Lamarre-Condon explained: “So I posted those stories because I was triggered.”

The precise content of the Instagram stories remains unclear.

Senior Sergeant James Woodbury also told the court that he oversees mandatory firearms conduct training for police officers.

Mr Woodbury said Beau Lamarre-Condon completed his annual training in January 2024 – a month before he allegedly fatally shot Baird and Davies (pictured together, above).

During the training, officers are taught and reminded how to handle firearms safely, and shoot moving targets.
