A Minnesota daycare provider is facing a manslaughter charge after a 7-month-old boy in her care became unresponsive and later died.

Narcisa de Jesus Morales Deleg, 58, was charged in connection with the infant’s death at her Brooklyn Center home daycare. The criminal complaint, reviewed by Law&Crime, says officers were called to the residence on June 30, 2025, after reports that a baby was not breathing.

The child’s mother told investigators that she arrived to pick up her son and made her usual phone call to let Morales Deleg know she was outside. Morales Deleg did not answer immediately.

According to the complaint, Morales Deleg eventually came to the door carrying the unresponsive infant. The mother said she had to instruct Morales Deleg to call 911, and that the daycare operator questioned whether an emergency call was necessary.

Paramedics took the baby to a hospital, where doctors determined he had suffered oxygen deprivation affecting his brain and placed him on a ventilator. Despite treatment, he died on July 15, 2025.

A child-abuse pediatrician involved in the case told police the infant may have choked or stopped breathing because of the way he was positioned in a swing.

Morales Deleg told investigators that she was supervising several children when the incident occurred. The complaint says she reported feeding the baby around 2 p.m., after which he slept until approximately 4:20 p.m. She then placed him in the swing and offered another bottle. Morales Deleg said the infant held the bottle himself, while his mother told police that he had not yet learned to do so.

After feeding the child at about 4:20 p.m., Morales Deleg said she left the room and did not watch him for roughly five to 10 minutes. When she returned, she found him “slumped over in the swing.” Police said she described the baby as limp and pale.

Investigators said Morales Deleg discovered the child was not breathing at about 4:40 p.m., but 911 was not called until 5:03 p.m. A review of her phone activity reportedly showed that she spent 18 of those 23 minutes exchanging text messages with relatives and family members connected to other children in her care. The texting continued until about 4:58 p.m., according to police.

The pediatrician who evaluated the infant told investigators that the child might have survived had emergency services been contacted sooner.

Morales Deleg was charged by summons and remains out of custody. Her next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 22.
