Christa Pike remained “kind and polite” and even tried to assist the execution team during her failed lethal injection, according to her attorney.
The 50-year-old convicted murderer was taken to hospital after surviving two doses of pentobarbital during an attempted execution on Sept. 30 at Riverbend Maximum Security Institution in Nashville. She regained consciousness Tuesday.
“Christa was at peace. She helped the execution team find what they thought was venous access,” her lawyer, Randy Spivey, said at a news conference Wednesday.
“She was kind and polite as they worked for an hour, stabbing her arm with needle after needle. Then she felt the burn of the pentobarbital.”
