Kamala Harris’ husband, Doug Emhoff, doesn’t want her running for president in 2028: report

Kamala Harris is reportedly facing resistance as she weighs a potential 2028 presidential campaign—including from her husband, Doug Emhoff, who would prefer that she not make another run for the White House.

Emhoff has privately told people that he would rather see Harris stay out of the 2028 race, The Wall Street Journal reported Friday.

Still, those familiar with the former second gentleman’s views expect him to support his wife if she ultimately decides to enter the contest, according to the newspaper.

Harris’ reservations extend well beyond her own household.

Some donors who remain uncertain about her plans have told Harris directly that another White House bid in 2028 would be “a long shot.”

The former vice president is seeking to rebound from a disappointing 2024 election against President Trump.

Harris lost the popular vote, the Electoral College and every swing state to Trump, despite raising an extraordinary $1.5 billion for her unsuccessful campaign.

Even so, she continues to lead the potential Democratic field by double digits in nearly every recent 2028 poll.

Harris says she has not decided whether to pursue a third presidential campaign, though her recent activity suggests she may be preparing the foundation for another White House bid.

With the midterm elections approaching, Harris has appeared at Democratic fundraisers, including private events supporting Wisconsin gubernatorial candidate David Crowley and Nevada gubernatorial candidate Aaron Ford, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Last week, she joined a call with the Democratic National Committee and more than 2,000 volunteers, encouraging them to support get-out-the-vote efforts in 12 states.

“I have not decided if I’m going to run again,” Harris said at a NAACP event in Michigan last month. “I do sincerely believe ’28 won’t matter if we don’t get through ’26.”

Several Harris allies who have known and worked with her remain “skeptical” that she will seek the presidency again.

Earlier this year, Harris and Emhoff purchased an $8 million mansion in Malibu.

Emhoff has also joined the Los Angeles law firm Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP as a partner.

Harris’ office and Emhoff did not immediately respond to The Post’s requests for comment.
