A stranger was slashed in the face by a knife-wielding attacker aboard a Bronx subway train during Friday morning’s rush hour, police and law enforcement sources said.
The 27-year-old victim was riding a northbound No. 2 train as it passed the 225th Street station in Williamsbridge at about 9:10 a.m. when the suspect struck him with a blade, according to police.
Emergency responders transported the man to Montefiore Medical Center, where he was reported to be in stable condition.
Investigators have not determined what led to the attack. The victim and suspect did not appear to know each other, law enforcement sources said.
The suspect was last seen wearing a black hoodie and navy sweatpants before fleeing the station area, police said.

The Bronx subway assault occurred just days after NYPD officials reported that transit crime through September had risen slightly compared with the same period last year.
“There were 15 more crimes this year than at this point last year, as an increase of 0.9 percent,” Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said.
“In terms of major crime, the New York City subway system this year is the second lowest in 15 years, behind 2025, if you exclude the pandemic years.”
Tisch said the modest year-to-date increase in major transit crime was largely tied to felony assaults, which have climbed 11 percent. She said assaults targeting public sector workers accounted for a significant share of that rise.
The police commissioner also said that 48 percent of felony assaults reported in the subway system so far this year involved suspects with a documented mental health history in NYPD records, while repeat offenders remained another major factor.
