CHICAGO () — Fans across Chicago and the NFL world are mourning the death of Bears legend Mike Ditka, whose larger-than-life presence helped define the franchise and the city’s football identity.
The Pro Football Hall of Famer and Super Bowl-winning coach died Friday, his family announced.
Ditka was 86. A family spokesperson said the legendary player and coach died Friday morning, surrounded by family and friends.

The spokesperson said Ditka died at about 9 a.m. Friends said he had been in fragile health for some time.
