California authorities say reality television personality Mackayla Paige, known professionally as “Kash,” was fatally shot.
Paige, 29, had appeared on RoomH8z, Real West Coast Baddies and Young & Reckless. She was shot in downtown Oakland shortly after 1:30 a.m. on Oct. 11. Police performed life-saving measures at the scene before she was transported to a hospital, where she later died, an Oakland Police Department spokesperson told Oxygen.
A woman from Richmond was arrested in connection with the shooting. Investigators have not released her name publicly.
In the hours leading up to the shooting, KTVU reported, Paige shared posts from a night out on her Instagram Stories. A memorial later appeared near the location where she was killed.
“I’m in disbelief,” Paige’s cousin Nicky Clayton told KTVU. “She was chilling. She was with family…I don’t know what transpired, but I know she’s supposed to be here.”
Clayton said Paige had big ambitions, including building a career in entertainment and beauty. “She wanted to be famous so bad,” Clayton said. “She still had morals, don’t get me wrong. She wanted to be a reality star. She wanted to start her own business. She was modeling for a lot of companies, and she really wanted to do makeup.”
Her friend Poodahh described Paige as someone who brought energy and joy wherever she went. “Oh my God, she was so fun,” she said, according to KTVU. “Was she not hella fun? Oh my God, this girl was so fun. She had us everywhere.”
Friends also remembered Paige as deeply loyal and supportive, particularly when encouraging those around her to pursue their goals.
“She pushes me to be better every day,” Poodahh continued. “She sees when I’m not giving it my all, and she pushes me to be what she knows I could be.”
Poodahh added that she was still struggling to accept Paige’s death. “She’s not gone. I can’t speak to her in the past tense,” she said.
