A Florida man is accused of stabbing his mother 30 times, telling relatives he was “tired” of her “bothering” him, and sending a photograph of her body to a family group chat with the message: “she is dead.”
Manuel Farfan-Cabello, 28, faces a first-degree murder charge in the death of his mother, 58-year-old Ylda Cabello-Ynocente.
The Broward County Sheriff’s Office was called to the 5300 block of NW 28th Street in Tamarac at about 7:45 p.m. Friday after receiving a report of a stabbing, according to a press release.
Farfan-Cabello allegedly called 911 and told dispatchers he had killed his mother. According to a probable cause affidavit, he said he stabbed her roughly four hours earlier before throwing the knife into a nearby pond.
Deputies arrived at the residence and arrested him.
Inside, investigators reported finding a “substantial amount of blood throughout the living room and kitchen areas.” Deputies said Cabello-Ynocente’s body was “stiff and cold to the touch.” She was pronounced dead at the scene.
A trail of blood led from the home to a neighbor’s porch. Surveillance footage reportedly showed Farfan-Cabello ringing the neighbor’s doorbell earlier that evening, the affidavit said.
Relatives told investigators that a family member in Peru called to report that “something horrible had occurred” at the victim’s home. Farfan-Cabello’s aunt said he used his mother’s phone to write in the family group chat that “she is dead” in Spanish, according to the complaint.
Another alleged message read: “Please forgive me, but God told me to do it.”
When relatives asked him to provide a photograph as proof, police said he complied.
The image allegedly showed Cabello-Ynocente lying on the floor in a pool of blood.
Farfan-Cabello also spoke by phone with another family member.
“I killed my mom,” he allegedly said. “Yes. I was tired of her. She was bothering me too much, and I am here with God.”
Detectives said the suspect then threatened to burn his mother’s body. Relatives persuaded him to contact police instead, according to the affidavit.
Family members told investigators that Farfan-Cabello had been diagnosed with schizophrenia and other mental health conditions. In an interview with local NBC affiliate WTVJ, relatives said he had experienced mental health struggles for years and frequently hallucinated.
An autopsy found that Farfan-Cabello had stabbed his mother 30 times, according to the affidavit.
Farfan-Cabello remains held without bond at the Broward County Jail. A judge appointed a public defender and ordered him to undergo a mental health evaluation.
