Trump again promises $5k for each American if Republicans win midterms

During a visit to Alaska, Donald Trump again pledged to give every adult American $5,000 in an effort to support incumbent Senator Dan Sullivan’s re-election campaign—though he attached one condition.

Speaking Tuesday night, Trump said he would provide $5,000 to “all adult citizens in the United States” if Republicans retain control of both chambers of Congress after the November midterm elections.

“You gotta spend it in the United States of America,” the president said. “I don’t want you going to China.”

Trump has made the same pledge at earlier appearances, including the Republican Midterm Convention in Dallas in early September, where he branded the proposed payment the “Trump Dividend.”

The unprecedented proposal has caught some of Trump’s staunchest supporters off guard.

Joe Lonsdale, the Palantir co-founder and Republican donor, responded to Trump’s Dallas announcement by writing: “For the record, I am hugely in favor of winning the midterms, and love much about this admin, but am strongly against bread and circus bribes.”

Other promises Trump made during his second term have yet to become reality. However, he did follow through on his “warrior dividend,” issuing $1,776 payments to 1.4 million military officials in December 2025.

Earlier in the evening, a heckler interrupted Trump’s address to Alaskans before security officers swiftly removed the person from the event.

Trump appeared amused by the incident, praising what he called “good law enforcement” and saying: “They just knocked the hell out of him.”

He then repeated a line he has often used about protesters at his rallies, telling the crowd that the heckler’s “mother and father voted for me.” The remark drew loud applause. Trump made the same joke Monday night after police manhandled several protesters at his Ohio rally.

Democrat and Alaska Native Mary Peltola has proven tough competition for the re-election bid of incumbent Senator Dan Sullivan. At his Alaska rally, Trump described her as a 'nut job'

Democrat and Alaska Native Mary Peltola has emerged as a formidable challenger to incumbent Senator Dan Sullivan. During the rally, Trump called her a “nut job”

Trump later turned his attention to Sullivan’s Democratic challenger, Alaska congresswoman Mary Peltola.

He called Peltola, who is Alaska Native, a “nut job” and accused her of being known by the nickname “No-Show Mary” because she allegedly failed to attend meetings in Washington, DC.

Trump also asked voters to “pretend I’m on the ballot.” His appearance, held 50 miles north of Anchorage, was designed to rally support for Sullivan as he faces an aggressive challenge from Peltola.

Democrats have not won a Senate seat in Alaska in nearly 12 years. Trump’s decision to campaign there nevertheless underscores how competitive Sullivan’s race has become.

Vice President JD Vance visited Alaska the previous week, warning that Democrats would “do whatever they need to do, right up to cheating,” to win the midterm elections.

The Cook Report classifies Alaska’s Senate race as a toss-up, while several polls show Peltola holding a narrow lead over the two-term incumbent.

Peltola announced Tuesday that her campaign raised $17 million during the third quarter, setting a record for third-quarter fundraising by an Alaska US Senate candidate.

In 2022, she became the first Indigenous person from the state to be elected to Congress.

Ahead of the presidential visit, Peltola’s press secretary Caroline Etgen told Our News Outlet that the Democrat is offering Trump the olive branch.

Should politicians offer cash promises to win votes or focus on long-term solutions for Americans?

‘She looks forward to working with President Trump to unleash Alaska energy and lower costs for when she’s elected,’ Etgen said.

‘It doesn’t matter who flies in to try and save Dan Sullivan from his abhorrent record, Alaskans will still hold him accountable for his price-hiking agenda this November.’

Peltola’s team further emphasized that she is ‘one of the most independent Democrats in Congress, regularly standing up to her own party’ and ‘working with Republicans to pass pro-energy legislation.’

Peltola was the only Democrat to join the ‘pro-fossil fuel’ Congressional Western Caucus in Congress, Politico reported. The Alaska Native also owns 176 long guns and is a strong second amendment advocate.

The current Senate race has seen rising living costs, diesel and fuel prices exacerbated by the Iran war, and fisheries as top issues for Alaskan voters.

Alaska gas prices have hit an average of $5.02, compared to $3.87 one year ago.

The Tuesday rally marked the president’s first official visit during his current term, aside from a summit with Vladimir Putin last August. He has made only three trips to the Last Frontier overall.

In September, Trump announced $54 billion South Korean investment to construct a new natural gas pipeline in Alaska. After the announcement, a South Korean official said the move ‘had not been finalized.’

On Tuesday night, he also announced that Taiwan committed to buying 30 percent of Alaska’s new liquified natural gas pipeline ‘for the next 20 years.’ Other terms of the deal remained unclear while he insisted the investment ‘guarantees success.’

Trump plans to visit Arizona and Montana on Wednesday.
