A Virginia man is accused of fatally shaking his 5-month-old son because he “just wanted him to be quiet.”
Nathan Travis-Nunnally, 22, faces charges of felony homicide, child abuse and aggravated malicious wounding, according to the Hopewell Police Department.
At a preliminary hearing Thursday, Oct. 15, prosecutors played a recorded cellphone conversation in which Travis-Nunnally allegedly admitted shaking the child, regional CBS affiliate WTVR reported.
Authorities were called at about 10:40 a.m. June 14 to the 4900 block of Oaklawn Boulevard in Hopewell, a city roughly 20 miles south of Richmond, for a report of an unresponsive child.
Hopewell police and fire personnel found the 5-month-old boy unresponsive. Responders provided medical care before taking him to a nearby hospital for what authorities described as a “life-threatening injury.”
The child died five days later.

Police arrested Travis-Nunnally, who was booked into Riverside Regional Jail.
“I just wanted him to be quiet,” Travis-Nunnally reportedly said during the call played in court, which took place between him and the child’s uncle. “I started screaming at him. I picked him up and then I shook him.”
He allegedly told his son to “shut the f— up” because the baby was being irritable. According to authorities, Travis-Nunnally said the child suddenly went limp, prompting him to call for help.
The child’s mother told WTVR that she was serving a weekend jail sentence when her son was injured. She said she and Travis-Nunnally had been engaged but had since ended their relationship.
The judge sent the charges to a grand jury, which is expected to review the case in December, according to the local television station.
