Anderson Cooper asks why Trump is so obsessed with praising men's looks after president hailed senator's muscular backside

CNN anchor Anderson Cooper dubbed Donald Trump “the a**man-in-chief” while poking fun at the president’s recent habit of commenting on the appearance and physiques of other men.

Trump has drawn attention in recent weeks with a series of suggestive observations about Republican candidates’ bodies as he campaigns in the final stretch before the midterm elections.

During Wednesday’s edition of his CNN program, Cooper targeted Trump’s latest unusual remarks about Ohio Senator Jon Husted. Trump said he had been “studying” Husted’s backside.

Cooper opened the segment with a clip from Seinfeld in which Kramer receives a license plate reading “A**MAN.” The anchor quipped: “Big news tonight for Kramer… He is no longer New York’s most famous a**man.”

He then labeled Trump a “derriere aficionado” during a pun-heavy monologue, joking that the president’s 32 percent approval rating was the result of “all his political junk in the trunk.”

“Trump is once again making sure voters know that, as far as he’s concerned, Ohio junior Senator Jon Husted is an unmitigated smoke show,” Cooper joked.

After airing a clip in which Trump insisted that focusing on men’s appearances had “never been my thing,” Cooper showed a montage of other occasions when Trump had praised men’s looks.

“But – and I do emphasize but – the beauty of the male form is not exactly forbidden fruit for him,” Cooper said.

Trump has raised eyebrows with a number of suggestive remarks about Republican candidates and their physiques in recent weeks, including complimenting Ohio Senator Jon Husted for his 'great a**' at two campaign events

Trump has sparked attention with a series of suggestive comments about Republican candidates and their physiques, including praising Ohio Senator Jon Husted for having a “great a**” at two campaign events.

In one of his complimentary but unusual rants about Husted, Trump told an Ohio rally last week that he had been surprised by the former college football player’s physique.

“I’m standing over here, and I don’t do this with men very often… I started examining his body because I didn’t know he was a great athlete,” Trump said.

“And I looked, and I watched up and down. I looked at his a** and I looked at the whole, and then I looked at his hands. Look at his hands. He’s got these, like, claws. And I got it. You are a great athlete.”

Trump returned to the subject on Tuesday during another speech about Husted’s appearance, this time at an event in North Carolina.

He told the crowd that he had been “studying (Husted’s) body” and described it as being “like a piece of steel.”

“I looked at his a**, and then I looked at his legs. I said, ‘His a**, sh*t, it’s like, it’s like a pile of muscle,’” Trump said. “I tapped him on the shoulder, and it actually hurt my hand. He’s like a piece of steel. I said, ‘This guy’s a monster!’”

Even though Trump told the audience that complimenting other men was “not my thing,” Cooper followed up by presenting more examples of the president praising men’s appearances.

Among them was Trump’s description of Georgia GOP gubernatorial candidate Rick Jackson as a “very handsome, distinguished, beautiful-looking guy.”

Trump has also called Republican Senator Tim Sheehy a “handsome guy,” described Kentucky Republican congressional nominee Ed Gallrein as “beautiful,” and referred to Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker as a “good-looking sucker.”

Cooper concluded his segment on Trump by quipping that while ‘Husted’s a** may be hard, his polling is soft,’ noting that he is down by roughly five points in his race.

Trump hit the campaign trail with Husted in an attempt to bolster the Republican’s polling, as the White House faces a tough outlook in the midterm elections on November 3.

With Trump facing losing control of Congress, the president received more bad news on Thursday as oil prices spiked following a report that the US and Israel plan to continue strikes on Iran after the elections.

Brent crude oil rose 2.68 percent to $111.74 a barrel on Thursday morning. The surge is a nightmare for the president with just 12 days until the November midterms, as he scrambles to lower prices at the pump.

Soaring gas prices have sent the cost of living soaring, leaving Republicans staring down the real prospect of losing both the House and Senate in less than two weeks.

Meanwhile, American and Israeli commanders have mapped out a ‘short but intensive’ operation targeting Iran’s nuclear sites, energy infrastructure and missile and drone arsenal, according to The New York Times.

Trump has even floated dropping the 22,000-pound GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast bomb, known as the ‘Mother of All Bombs,’ on Pickaxe Mountain, a nuclear site buried deep inside granite.

Privately, officials claim the president is smitten with the weapon partly because of its nickname.

Some US planners are convinced a three-day pounding could tip Iran’s battered economy over the edge and force Tehran to cave on its nuclear program after nearly eight months of war.

Trump vowed earlier this month not to strike before the vote, and the full US armada, including three aircraft carriers and thousands of Marines, will arrive in November.
