Katie Zacharia Reflects on Her Final White House Day and Kids’ Lesson

Former White House press secretary Katie Zacharia says her turbulent, five-day stint in the Trump administration taught her four young children a lasting lesson: protecting one’s loyalty and character matters more than avoiding public humiliation.

Speaking Monday from the patio of her home in Thousand Oaks, the conservative commentator described the final hours of her brief and historic appointment, which came to an abrupt end on October 16.

Zacharia said her last night in the position fell one day after her oldest son’s birthday and ended with a dinner alongside Vice President JD Vance.

“It was a tough night,” Zacharia told the California Post.

“What I will mark is that maintaining your character, no matter the circumstances, for me, is what defined the entire process. That to tell my kids: be loyal, be faithful, and be true to who you are, even when the whole world turns against you,” she continued.

Her only appearance at the James S. Brady Press Briefing Room podium, on October 13, drew fierce criticism and widespread online ridicule. Even so, Zacharia said she accepted the backlash because it allowed her to model resilience for her children.

“What they witnessed was a mother standing strong while she’s an international meme, or when everyone’s making fun of her, including people who we thought would be on our side,” she told The Post. “If… I went through that entire thing only to teach my kids to have integrity and to have loyalty, then I think it was worth it.”

Her abrupt exit from the administration also raised concerns about security at her home.

According to Zacharia, stalkers and curious onlookers flooded her Southern California neighborhood soon afterward. Neighbors eventually stepped in to confront them and clear the area.

Addressing criticism of her uneven press briefing, Zacharia said she received “only a few hours of actual briefing material” on the morning of her debut. She added that former press secretaries Kayleigh McEnany, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Ari Fleischer, and Sean Spicer contacted her to offer support, saying she had been given an insufficient “runway” for preparation.

She further recounted the experience in an article published on the California Post’s opinion page.

Zacharia rejected claims that political favors secured her appointment, saying President Donald Trump approached her directly after years of combative television appearances and early-morning cable news segments.

Reflecting on her dismissal, she recalled Trump telling her: “You know, there are other ways to make a living.”

Zacharia hinted that announcements about her next career move are coming soon and pledged to continue supporting Trump as a prominent ally outside the executive branch.
