Two foreign nationals died and two others were injured in an apparent electrical incident at a hotel swimming pool in Bengaluru, India, police said.
The incident occurred Friday evening, Oct. 30, at Conrad Bengaluru in the city’s Halasuru neighborhood, according to authorities.
Seemant Kumar Singh, Bengaluru’s police commissioner, said investigators suspected an electrical leak. Medical, technical and expert reports were still pending to establish the precise cause, Public TV reported.
Authorities sealed off the pool area while the investigation continued, Singh said.
“We are deeply saddened by the tragic incident which occurred at Conrad Bengaluru, which led to the subsequent death of two guests. We offer our deepest condolences to all those impacted,” a spokesperson for Hilton Worldwide Holdings, which owns Conrad Hotels & Resorts, told Fox News Digital.
“The cause of the incident has not yet been established and remains subject to a comprehensive investigation by local authorities,” the spokesperson added.
“We are offering our full support to their investigation. Our team remains available to provide all appropriate assistance to relevant authorities as their investigation continues,” the company said.
Police identified the victims as Alexander Maximilian Theiss, 57, a German national and Lufthansa crew member, and Juraj Horvat, 45, a Slovak national who worked as a project manager for IBM, The New Indian Express reported.
Both men were staying at the hotel when the incident occurred.
A 41-year-old American guest, Mathew Desantis, and Rahul Tiwari, a 28-year-old pool attendant and lifeguard, were injured while attempting to help, the same publication reported.
Four people were transported to Manipal Hospital, the hospital said in a statement cited by NDTV. Theiss was dead when he arrived, while Horvat died after doctors attempted to resuscitate him.
Fox News Digital contacted Lufthansa, which said in a statement: “Lufthansa confirms with deep sadness that a member of our crew passed away following an accident on Friday (30 October 2026) during a layover in Bengaluru.”
The airline added: “Our deepest sympathies go out to the family, relatives and friends of the deceased crew member. We ask for your understanding that, out of respect for the privacy of those affected, we are unable to provide any further details about the circumstances of the accident or the deceased crew member.”
Desantis was in stable condition after suffering a headache and shock, while Tiwari was also reported to be stable, according to the hospital.
Doctors planned to examine Tiwari for possible fractures after he reported pain, The Times of India reported.

Theiss’ wife filed a police complaint alleging that the men were shocked while trying to leave the pool and subsequently drowned, NDTV reported.
Conrad Bengaluru said it was saddened by the deaths and was cooperating with authorities.
The hotel also said the cause of the incident “has not yet been established,” according to NDTV.
A joint technical investigation was examining the pool’s pump, underwater lights and earthing lines, The Federal reported.
Preliminary inspections centered on the underwater lighting system as a possible source of the electrical fault, The Times of India reported.
Investigators have not confirmed what caused the incident.
The hotel’s website listed the pool as closed for maintenance from Oct. 31 through Nov. 30, NDTV reported.
Available reports have not established whether the scheduled closure was connected to the incident.
