Raspberry Pi 5 16GB Gets Another ‘Unavoidable’ RAM Price Hike

Raspberry Pi CEO Eben Upton said the latest price increases are being driven by a shortage of “alternative supply” for 16GB DRAM, alongside ongoing shortages of other components. “Though these increases are unavoidable, we know they are unwelcome news for our customers,” Upton said. “We encourage you to make sure you’re not paying for more memory than you need.” He recommended choosing a Raspberry Pi with less memory or an older Pi model instead of paying a premium for the 16GB version. However, other Raspberry Pi 5 models have also become more expensive, with the 2GB configuration receiving a price increase last month.

Priced at $385, the 16GB Raspberry Pi 5 is now approaching the cost of a compact desktop mini PC. Upton repeated the company’s commitment to reversing the increases, describing the current memory market as challenging but temporary. “We look forward to rolling back our price increases when memory costs fall once again,” he said.
