Hakeem Jeffries, the presumed next Speaker of the House, said Democrats will not work with President Trump’s newly appointed chief of staff, Stephen Miller — an early sign of tensions following the party’s stunning upset in Tuesday’s midterm elections.
“Stephen Miller is the architect of Donald Trump’s violent mass deportation machine,” Jeffries said Sunday on ABC’s “This Week.” He blamed Miller for policies he said contributed to the deaths of Americans, including Alex Pretti and Renee Nicole Good.
Jeffries called Trump’s decision to select Miller “irresponsible.”

The Brooklyn Democrat said his party would “forcefully” challenge what he described as extremism within the administration.

“There’s not going to be any opportunity, certainly, to work with Stephen Miller and what he represents,” Jeffries said.
Jeffries also argued that Tuesday’s vote gave lawmakers a “firewall” against the Trump administration.
