Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund have reached an outline agreement for the loan of Jadon Sancho until the end of the season.

There is a willingness to get a deal done, but the clubs say there are important details still to be resolved.

Dortmund still hope to have Sancho at their warm weather training camp in Marbella next week but there is no guarantee the loan will be finalised this weekend.

Sancho joined Manchester United for £73million in 2021 but has not appeared since August after being exiled from Erik ten Hag’s squad.

Twelve goals in 82 games represents a modest return on investment for United but he enjoyed a prolific four seasons at Dortmund, scoring 50 goals in 137 games.

Erling Haaland hailed his former team-mate as a ‘proper baller’ in evidence of the high regard in which he is held by those who knew him at Dortmund.

Returning to regular top-level football will be an interesting test for Sancho, considering that he has not even trained with the first team sinc September.

He was reported to be training ‘like a beast’ in December with suggestions that some of his comrades at United wanted to see him reinstated into Ten Hag’s set-up.

But United’s manager has been adamant that he will not bring Sancho back into the fold until he receives an apology from the 23-year-old.

Sancho effectively branded the Dutchman a liar over his reasons for leaving him out against Arsenal in September.

Ten Hag had questioned Sancho’s training performances and since their fall-out, the £275,000-per-week man has been cast aside.
